Just thinking

Ok so the post that is after this one is just some key points that I got from Lynda about flash. I am not finished with all chapters but sitting through 7 chapters was enough for one sitting. I do recommend people looking through these tutorials because they do help.
Other than that, I am at a point with my project that I feel overwhelmed. I am not sure what part it is: the teaching myself these programs that have so much information or the idea that I don't know how I am going to complete this! I seem to always take on these projects that push me to the limit and I know once it is done I will love it and have learned so much but with this I am spreading myself a little thin (speaking of- creating the work, learning the programs and being concerned if this will even come together the way I plan). I don't know I am sure it will come together but sometimes a little fear is the motivation I need. Ok even venting time to work!

Project outline

Title- Cosmos

Project Description

Using experimental processing I am planning on creating a short Astronomy Mockumentary video and still frame cosmos posters. My intention is to layer artificial star, cosmos, and planetary motion images with factual information. In hopes that the boundaries of fact and fiction are blurred enough to create a believable short film.

Conceptual Concerns

Obtaining enough sold information to write a script.

Believability of my images.

Technical Skills Covered

Flash

Tween- Animation of a star mapping/motion

Importing sound and text

PS4

Scanning of my Images

Color Adjustment

Filters

Use of 3d animation

Exporting to film

Final Cut Pro/I movie/ or best editing

Combining all images and sound into a film

Exporting

Printing

Print quality-Poster style

Formal Guidelines

Around a 10 minute video

2-5 Posters 11in by 17in or 14in by 20in

Artistic References

Mark Dion, John Salvon, Matt McCormick, Eric J. Heller, Gunther von Hagens

Readings

Cosmiccomic, Intro to Astronomy 8th edition, Mockumentary guidelines, Beyond the Cosmos, Adobe Creative Suites Information Guide

Grade

For both midterm and the final crit. I would not only like the you to judge if the posters and project is collectively functioning well together but an overall grade and feedback from the class. I would like both grades (the class and your average) to be taken into consideration. I would also like during the midterm to hand out a paper to everyone to get feedback on the progression of my project.

Goals

This project is a new challenge for me. Many time we are able to build works of art without need a script to collectively combined a project but with this I am not only creating abstract images with a relationship to known cosmic, stars and black holes but also combining this information with real date.

Channels and Mask/Selection tools
Using both the magnetic lasso and the lasso tool
I was able to select the wall area ( an area that I
wanted to change the curves without affecting
the rest of the image). Once the area was selected
I was about to reduce the amount of green and blue
in the selected area.
Once again using the lasso tools I selected the
foreground area and on a layer mask add a
a desired gradient.
Even though this image is not a strong image to
use such tools, many times in my work I have
wanted to change the curves or levels in selected
areas.

Megalopolis Shanghai by Horst & Daniel Zielske

These two images by the Zielske's are both visually impacting but technically overwhelming.

In both Zielske's images there is a strong mixture between warm and cool colors. In both images the blues are accentuated by being placed/found along warm(yellow and red) roads and buildings.
Also the difficulties of the lighting. You can see that each image has a needs a longer exposure
time because they are photographed at night. With the images that are posted once taken into photoshop detail is lost throughout the neon signs and florescent lights (granted that is mostly because of the online image quality).

To Add One Meter to an Anonymous Mountain
by Zhang Huan

Even though Huan's work is based on performances the images are not only documentation but works are art themselves. Here there is a nice balance/harmony between the landscape and subject matter. The models flesh tones share a similar color palette with the grasses foreground.
